Before it was the protected natural oasis that it is today, Prince William Forest Park in Northern Virginia was home for thousands of years to Native Americans. The forest was established as a children's relief camp in 1936 under the name of Chopawamsic Recreation Area, Chopawamsic meaning "by the small isolated lodge" in the ancient Algonquian language.

Ever wonder what the children of these archaic Native American tribes played with? Their lifestyles were vastly different from the ones we know today and they relied on natural materials such as stone, wood, and bone to make tools and other objects. Children will delight in the "Buzz Saw" noisemaker toy, named for the way it resembles a circular saw blade, a replica of the toy Native American children and later Colonial and Victorian era children played with.
